Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of event is this?

Primarily,  the event is intended to be an in-costume party serving as a reunion for old school LARPers from the days of Earthworks LRP that used to run Live Action Roleplaying Games at Candleston Campsite during the 1990's. In addition, we are using the event to memorialise many of the friends we have lost along the way to illness and conflict. That said, we also want to welcome newer LARPers into the wonderful community we all know and love and give them a chance to see Candleston for themselves; its a special place for us with magical memories and we hope that a new generation will get to enjoy it the same way we have.

Is this a LARP Event?

Well, it's a party, not a classic adventure, but you're welcome to come along in costume as your favorite LARP character from past years or create an entirely new fantasy persona as you see fit.

We won't be using any formal LARP rules or mechanics and don't currently intend to run any kind of adventures or plots. That said, there will no doubt be games and contests throughout the weekend and maybe one or two other surprises if we can get it all planned out in advance. At the very least there will be song, laughter, tall tales and firelight - the very essence of a good LARP event.

I'm new to this, can I come?

Of course you can! If you need some advice or have any questions please drop us an email at EarthworksLRP@outlook.com and we'll be in touch.

Will there be onsite catering?

At the time of writing, we are not planning any formal catering onsite and we advise you come to the event equipped and provisioned for self-catering. We may well be running a coffee shop on site during limited hours but will be offering only light snacks.

There will be a fully licensed meadery (bar) on site.

Will there be Traders or Merchandise?

We don't have any LARP traders booked in as yet, but they'd be more than welcome to attend and offer their wares at the event!

If you'd like to trade at GuruFest then you'll be pleased to know that you can do so for the standard ticket price - we're  not charging extra for trading pitches.

Why is it called GuruFest?

One of the stalwarts that made Earthworks LRP such a success during the 1990s was a man called Pete "Guru" Williams. Without his creative touch and his enthusiasm for the hobby we would never have been able to stage the amazing events that we all remember so well. Recently, we lost Pete to a battle with cancer and this event is named in his honour. This is also why the event is hosted under the name of EarthWorks LRP,  the club we ran together, and ClayDragon, his prop-makers mark.
